Session Information

Your newborn baby will change so much during the first few weeks of his or her life. They will never be this tiny again, so it is extremely important that this moment is captured for you to look back on forever. The first couple of weeks after having your newborn baby can often be quite overwhelming, but newborn sessions give you the chance to relax, sit back with a coffee, and just enjoy being a parent while your baby is in safe hands! I have many clients who first visit the studio with slightly older babies and they always comment that they regretted not having a newborn shoot in the first couple of weeks of their baby’s life.

All newborn shoots take place at my natural light home studio in Naislea, just outside of Bristol. There is a comfortable sofa area where you can settle in, relax and enjoy watching your little one’s first photoshoot. During the shoot, I will use natural lighting, posing and props to compliment every aspect of your newborn baby. I focus on capturing all of those gorgeous little details, such as tiny toes, delicate hair, gorgeous pouts and perfect flakes of skin. Every single part of your new baby is important to capture as it will change so quickly. All newborn shoots take place at my home studio in Nailsea.
By choosing to book my for your newborn session, you will ensure that none of these details are forgotten. They will be a heart-warming reminder of the start of an amazing journey that you will go on together as a family.

Booking your shoot

It is advisable to book your shoot as soon as possible after your 20 week scan to ensure your desired slot is available. I will book you in for a provisional date, around 7 days after your due date. I will then be able to alter the session date if your baby arrives early or late. Please ensure that someone is available to drive you and your baby to and from your newborn session, just in case you’re not able to drive.
It is ideal for newborn shoots to be done when your baby is between 4-14 days old. This is the prime stage when your baby is able to relax into positions, whilst still being sleepy and curled up as if they are still in the womb. However I absolutely love photographing babies of all ages, so don’t worry if your little one is older than 14 days – we will still capture some gorgeous images that showcases his or her beautiful personality!

Newborn sessions – the details

Newborn sessions take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours, and sometimes slightly longer. The timings of the shoot are completely run by your baby, as I will not rush them as it’s important that they feel safe, happy and comfortable at all times. It is normal for newborns to take some time to settle, and extra time is allowed for within the shoot for feeding, changing and cuddles! Family and sibling shots are also included in every newborn shoot.

Safety is of the upmost importance at all times during newborn shoots. Some main points relating to this include safety when posing (I will not force babies into any positions that they are even slightly uncomfortable with), and the room temperature (it will be very warm during the shoot, so be prepared!). All of my posing techniques are completely baby-led, and I will only encourage your little one into positions that are comfortable for them.

There are a few things that it would be helpful if you could please bring to your shoot. Firstly, if there are any outfits or objects (e.g wooden letters, teddies etc) that you’d like your newborn photographed with, please bring them and show them to me at the start of the shoot. If you have any colour preferences for the shoot, please mention these to her at least 2 weeks before your due date. When deciding this, do ensure that you consider the colours of your home and which colours would work well when hung proudly on your wall! If you would like parent photos, I advise to wear a white or light coloured top with no large print or big logos. This will help to create a really lovely light and airy feel to your images.

 •
On the more practical side of things, please bring a blanket, a couple more nappies than usual and a pack of baby wipes. I prefers for all parents to bring their own wipes or cotton pads, as I wouldn’t want to use anything on your baby’s delicate skin that they aren’t used to. Please also bring a dummy if you have one – even if your baby hasn’t used one yet, they’re a great help during shoots!
 •
The aim of the shoot is to get your baby to be as sleepy and relaxed as possible. Therefore, please hold off on feeding until either just before you come, or when you get here (whichever you feel most comfortable with). If you’re bottle feeding then please bring some extra milk as a top up during the shoot for soothing purposes. If you’re breast feeding, just bring yourself!!

After your session

At your session, we will book in a suitable date for you to come back to the studio to view your images! This will be around two weeks after your session. At your viewing, a gallery of around 30 images will be presented to you as a beautiful slideshow accompanied by music and snacks! After you have viewed the slideshow, we will go back through each image individually to help with making your choice. As there is no minimum spend, you only need to purchase the images that you love. All orders must be placed during this session, so it’s important that all decision makers are present. If you would like to purchase prints or wall art, I will be there to assist you with the different options available.
